Here are a few things I’ve enjoyed lately that you also might enjoy:
Stuff You Missed in History Class did an episode on Berthe Morisot. I don’t know much about art history, so I heard of Morisot only accidentally when I made a sweater inspired by her. Curious, I looked her up and her paintings are delightful. The delicate soft look she achieves just amazes me. I enjoyed this little overview of her life and work.

I can’t remember how it came up but I recently rewatched School Ties from 1992. In a more serious role than usual, Brendan Fraser plays a 1950s Jewish kid with a football scholarship to a fancy private school who encounters some serious anti-Semitism. It’s got nicely Academic sets and costuming, but it’s also a good drama. I’d forgotten how much I liked it. I’d actually gotten it confused with another Brendan Fraser movie, With Honors, which was also surprisingly good. Maybe I’ll watch that one over the weekend.
I’ve been a fan of Grouper for a while, but I’m really lazy so I missed this old collaboration with Xiu Xiu. Their short album Creepshow really hits the spot for me.
Through a Dark Academia Facebook group I also discovered Ea Wim this week. As far as I can find, she only has a handful of songs out. I hope she keeps creating because I love the spare, experimental sound and her deep ringing voice. I follow her on Bandcamp but you can also find her on Spotify or other major services.
And of course, I’m always in the middle of a book or two. I’ve been working my way through Edith Wharton’s The Age of Innocence, reading a bit over lunch every day, and I’ve been reading Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations at night before bed. They’re very different from each other and I’m enjoying them both quite a bit.
I hope you’re all set to have a lovely weekend, too, and I would love to hear what you’re reading and listening to, where you’re going, what you’re working on.
