Goth Gratitude Day 17: Foraging for Food

Our state won’t fine you for wandering around your neighborhood–not yet, anyway–but we’re being strongly encouraged to limit our shopping and travel. That means we haven’t been anywhere but the park (at safe distances) for at least a week, but this morning I had to do some shopping. The stores are still pretty weird, with pre-sanitized carts and “shopping lanes” set up to keep people from getting close to each other. But products are returning to the shelves, and I only had to visit two stores to get all the groceries we’ll need for a week, maybe a week and a half.

When things go crazy, little things can take you from “anxious wreck” to “cozily waiting out the storm.” Today’s trip yielded all purpose flour, decent rice, a reasonable variety of frozen veggies, sweet potatoes, and other basics that make dinner worth cooking. I’m incredibly grateful for everyone still out there working to keep us home-bound folks fed.

  1. Good for you. Today we made the best stew and since I started using myfitnesspal dot com again to keep trask of calories and nutrition, I used a bunch of good stuff that we had: raw red lentils, a potato, carrots, frozen peas, and some textured vegetable protein. It was great, not high-calorie, low-fat, high protein, and very tasty, plus lots left over. I hope you enjoy your goodies too.
