I never know what to say about myself so I’m stealing questions from a “get to know you” list. The list I’m using has 50 questions but I’m cherry-picking the interesting ones and adding a couple goth specific questions because that’s how I roll. Without further ado:
Are you named after anyone? Nope. All my siblings are but not me. I’m not sure what to make of that.
When was the last time you cried? I tear up all the time over sentimental stuff, but I rarely cry about serious matters.
Do you have kids? Yes. I have three–two girls and a boy.
If you were another person, would you be a friend of yourself? Yes. We would be best friends and do great things together.
Do you use sarcasm a lot? I did in high school but I’ve mellowed with age. These days I’m only mildly to moderately sarcastic.

Scary movie or happy endings? Scary movie. I’ve always been drawn to horror, urban legends, true crime, dark fantasy. I do enjoy comedy sometimes, but I’m suspicious of happy endings.
Favorite smells? Cooking spices, gasoline.
What’s the furthest you’ve ever been from home? About halfway around the world, from the U.S. to India. My parents lived there for about 10 years. I also lived in Japan for four years as a teenager.
What’s your zodiac sign? Do you believe in it? I’m a cancer. The descriptions don’t fit me at all so no, I don’t really believe in the zodiac. I did own an astrology once and make my own detailed planetary chart, but it still didn’t feel very useful.
What are your hobbies? I crochet, knit, cook, read both fiction and non-fiction, and obviously blog.
Do you have any pets? We own a pale pink (leucistic) corn snake.
Do you have any siblings? I have an older brother, an older sister, and two younger sisters. We’re all grown ups now and live in different states but we text and call and occasionally visit each other.
What do you want to be when you grow up? A sorcerer. Or maybe a mistress of arcane secrets.
What is the least favorite thing about yourself? My temper
How many countries have you visited? Technically four–Japan, India, Mexico and Canada. But Mexico and Canada were just day trips so they barely count. I have been to over half the states in the United States, though.
What would you (or have you) name your children? Fun fact: we didn’t actually name our kids. They’re adopted and we kept the names they came with. If we had named them, they would have been Lavender, Henry, and Stella.
What are some of your favorite YouTubers? I rarely watch YouTube, and when I do I’m usually looking up specific music, how-to or informational videos. I do sometimes watch Ask a Mortician and Townsends historical videos.
What about podcasts? Do you listen to those? Yes. I’m partial to things like Dark Histories, the Partially Examined Life, Nocturnal Asylum, Rebel Songs, Geekshow, Myths and Legends, and Stuff You Should Know.
How would you describe your fashion sense? Dark and lazy. On the inside I’m a romantigoth with an industrial edge, but on the outside I’m pretty much geek goth/casual. I used to dress nicer before the kids, and as they get older I drift slowly back towards velvet and lace.
3 things that make you happy? Music, museums, finding a fascinating new subject to read about.
How is your relationship with your parents? My dad is buried in Arizona. Things with my mom are distant and complicated by her serious emotional issues.
What are your favorite quotes? “You hate me because I’m blunt and have no patience for wasted time or wasted words. Because I’m not nice. Well, a lot of nice people are nice because they’ve figured out it’s a great way to get things from other people. Some of the slimiest snakes I’ve run across have been nice. So let me tell you now, if you ever see me resort to being nice, run.”
― Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits
Are you an extrovert or an introvert? Introvert with mild to moderate social anxiety and decent social skills.
Are you left or right handed? Lefty, and occasionally bitter about it.
Do you consider yourself a good cook? Yes, I’m an excellent home cook.
If money were no object what would you get for your next birthday? I would take a trip to Europe, see some real castles and historical cemeteries. We just don’t have old stuff like that in the U.S. and I’d love to see the landscape behind all those gothic novels I read.
What’s your favorite thing to have for breakfast? Coffee with real cream.
What’s you longest relationship so far? Mr. Robot and I have been together for 12 years.
What kind of music do you usually have here? Cities Last Broadcast, Dead Can Dance, Joy Division, Scott Walker, Tones on Tail, Vermillion Lies, The Cure, Bauhaus, Nine Inch Nails, Throwing Muses, Karmelloz, Kammarheit . . .
The horror? What about the Horror? Loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dexter, Haunting of Hill House, Hellraiser (books and movies), Penny Dreadful, Shaun of the Dead, true crime documentaries.
How long have you been goth? I’ve been into this stuff since high school in the early ’90s.
Eyebrows or no eyebrows? Eyebrows. Everyone in the ’90s had eyebrows. I’ve shaved my head before but not my brows.
Thoughts on Marilyn Manson? I don’t really have any. I don’t think about him at all unless someone asks me this question.
Favorite authors? David Wong, Haruki Murakami, Shirley Jackson, Clive Barker. Classic gothic novels and literary stuff, occasional dark fantasy and vampire stuff.
