Last week I said I was trying to settle into fall and be in tune with the weather changing around me. I meant it in a cozy city girl way, watching the turning leaves through my window and feeling the wind whip my hair as I hurry to and from my warm car. Instead, autumn decided to visit me with a vengeance. On Saturday I went for a nice jog and got caught in a nasty rain storm. I’d worn my warmest hoodie just in case it got chilly; I spent the first couple miles feeling silly because I was so warm and the last couple miles intensely grateful my hoodie was getting soaked instead of my bare arms. By the end my shoes were squelching like very expensive sponges but the hoodie kept me from freezing too hard. It was a miserable slog but I couldn’t get too upset because, after all, I did ask to be fully in tune with the season of water. What did I expect?
I was jogging up a long trail that winds all the way through town. I never really reach the end before turning back around, but this week I ventured a quarter mile farther than usual and reached the Saint Francis Crossing for the first time. It’s just an ordinary pedestrian underpass beneath a large road but, like so many ordinary things around here, it’s been thoughtfully covered in art.

There are many things that frustrate me about this town, but it’s full of small moments of beauty. This town is full of galleries that cater to the rich, but it’s also home to a lot of small artists and crafters, and full of lovely public art like this. I enjoy discovering new bits of art as I wander around town.
Aside from that adventure, it’s been a quiet week working on my sweater project and planning for Thanksgiving. I finished both sleeves and attached them so it looks like an actual cardigan now. I still have to finish the collar, weave in the many ends, block the finished piece, and sew on the snaps I just bought. I’m also pondering pockets; the pattern doesn’t call for them but I think I could make them work if I’m careful about the shape and size. So much left to do, but I’m tentatively pleased with myself. I don’t know how much work I’ll get done with the busy holiday weekend, but I hope that by next week I’ll be done enough to model it for you. Until then, be well and enjoy the season. –Corvus
