This Week in Pictures

Santa Fe is full of art. It’s probably the best thing about northern New Mexico. Some of it sells for tens of thousands of dollars, destined for offices and hotel lobbies and homes much fancier than ours. I love going out to the galleries just to look, but our price range is much more humble. When we buy art, it’s usually postcards or prints from the smaller names that gather at art and craft fairs throughout the summer. This year we found three pieces in our price range that I fell in love with. I bought them all a couple months ago and finally got them all framed and hung this week.

The two photos are Mike Wardynski prints. My phone camera doesn’t do justice to the beautiful red rock in the first photo but you get the idea. (My camera also doesn’t do justice to the wall color–that wall is actually lavender.) The originals of both photos are huge and stunning. The kind of art we might afford in ten years when the kids are grown ups. For now, we’re thoroughly enjoying our prints. The bison are by Miro Kenarov and the ceramic frame is by Maria Kenarova. I loved all the bright paintings and textured frames so much it took me forever to choose just one.

While I was at it, I framed the set of vintage inspired Great Lakes postcards my sister gave me for my birthday. I think they make a lovely little set.

I’m a terrible photographer, as you can tell. Good thing there are so many great photographers I can buy art from.

You might notice these are all nature art. Nature is where my taste and the Robot’s meet, so our decorating sense is pretty “Victorian naturalist and explorer” with witchy elements mixed in. The older I get, the more I lean into this vibe. It really suits us both as a couple.
