The Hills Are Alive

There’s a smallish wildfire burning on the mountains north of my house. According to the latest news it’s moving slowly and will probably be contained before it does any real harm to people or property, but it’s only 3 or 4 miles away so it looks pretty dramatic from our backyard.

The wind keeps blowing the smoke our way, so the air is hazy and smells like a campfire, but so far it feels more interesting than scary. The kids have been on a break from school, so we’ve been playing games and watching Halloween movies. My kids, being still kids, aren’t into the truly scary movies, but they like horror-comedy like The Babysitter and Santa Clarita Diet or stylish supernatural stuff like Priest and I, Frankenstein.

I’ve seen most of them before, so I knit or crochet while I watch. I’m still using the leftover yarn from my Buckbeak sweater. I’ve finished two sets of armwarmers–the Winter Fanfare pattern and the Frothy Gothy. Despite how simple the pattern is, I screwed up the Frothy Gothy warmers like three times before I got the hang of them. Sometimes the movies get too interesting and throw off my stitch count. 😉 I still have yarn left, so I’m turning it into scarves. I saw a really cute scarf on Instagram with lace and buttons on it, so I’m going to experiment on that theme. Turns out the inspirational original is from this shop, The Ivory Dolls. I have enough yarn to make a couple different crochet scarves, then I can treat myself to some lace and buttons to decorate them with.
