Today’s prompt: What films, if any, inspire your Mori look and life?
Huh. I don’t know how direct the inspiration is because none of them are very Mori, but I feel very inspired by movies like Midsommar and Crimson Peak and series like Grimm and Penny Dreadful. I also feel inspired by The Station Agent. These all have really beautiful or haunting visual elements that have stuck with me as much as their various storylines. More than the stories, sometimes. Crimson Peak wasn’t the best gothic story I’ve ever seen, but I fell in love with the look of it. In terms of story, only The Station Agent is very Mori. It’s a quiet film about people befriending each other in a small town. I’m sure I talk a lot more about horror on this blog, but I also enjoy quiet films about ordinary people navigating the world. They often involve quirky small town settings, and I also like that. Some of my other favorites are Ghost World, American Splendor, Sunshine Cleaning, and The Pretty One. These don’t inspire me visually as much, but they probably have just as much influence on my lifestyle as the others.
