Goth Gratitude Day 6

Did I ever mention that Mr. Robot bakes? He comes from one of those frugal, traditional families thar make bread from sceatch. In his teenage years, when he was eating constantly as teen boys tend to do, his mom made him learn to bake his own bread. He’s gotten quite good since then.

My family did not make bread from scratch. Except for major holidays we cooked from boxes and cans. Our stroganoff came from a Hamburger Helper box, our rice pilaf was mixed by Rice-a-roni, and our mashed potatoes came from big cans of potato flakes. I didn’t even know people still mashed real potatoes until my college roommate did it.

Since those days I’ve become a really good cook, but I’m still not a good baker so I’m grateful Mr. Robot handles all the cookies, cakes and bread. Because of him, we had plenty of flour and yeast when the stores ran out. He quit making bread for a bit when his hand broke but now he’s back to it.

Most mornings we all share a cute little whole wheat loaf like this one. Today I’m grateful for our in-hoise baker and for his mom, who made him learn.
