Today is my birthday. My kids are annoying the hell out of me, but they got me a lot of nice gifts so it’s still shaping up to be a good day.

A couple weeks ago my younger siblings came to visit from out of state. One brought their partner who’s never been to Utah, so we did the three main things Utah has to offer–nature, Mormon culture, and dinosaurs. My sib’s partner is pretty gothy so we got to bond a bit over black clothes, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and This Mortal Coil. It was fun.
After a few days my sibs moved on to Arizona and because of my older and much crazier sister I suddenly had to go with them. That trip was dramatic and stressful and, it turns out, totally unnecessary. We did see the Grand Canyon, though, and ate at a diner that’s been around since my mom’s childhood, and went to a great rock and gem shop that featured several fascinating human skulls (for display only).
Hopefully the rest of summer will be more peaceful, with small camping trips and a couple home improvement projects in the works. Maybe I’ll even find time to gather my thoughts and blog more regularly. However it rolls, I hope you enjoy all the pictures of beautiful nature and middle-aged Mom goth attire. Happy birthday to me!
